Check out this new new track by Portland artist, Wingate. This is the first time we post Wingate's music, so continue reading for a small bio.
The city of Portland is a city filled with diversity and has a strong sense of originality. Portlands slogan for the city; Keep Portland Weird displays how its citizens feel about keeping things original and creative. As a city known for its rain, trees, Nike and the Trail Blazers, it lacks the feeling of having a strong hip-hop scene. Now - finally - from a city confronted with daily disappointment and underacheviement from its music industry, there is a glimmer of hope.
Wingate; A 21 year old young man born on the Westside of the city shows the potential to blow up and put Portland on the map for its music.
Meet Michael Mekhi Holloway, 6. Currently, this happy kid we call Mekhi is living at Mattel’s Children Hospital at UCLA. He’s been living there for about three months while waiting on transplant lists for multiple organs. While on a visit to LA recently I got to catchup with little guy and his mom. While it is a rough time for everyone nowadays, things are extra rough on this single mother family. Alma, his mother, has not been able to work as a result of her presence daily in the hospital. The story goes on..but rather than taking you through the rest of the gut wrenching story; here is how you can help.
As most of the music this group hits you with is free, this remix will be for sale at Sene’s bandcamp. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Mekhi and his family to aid in this rough time.
Arms & Hammers: The Foundation is a short 15-minute film about everyday life in the City of Los Angeles. It follows three young men who approach survival differently but all-in-all have the same purpose throughout. The characters by no means reflect the individuals in Strong Arm Steady directly, but more so we believe they reflect the individual in us all, which is the basis of SAS music and Arms & Hammers. I guess you can call it the ghetto’s duality. The film was written and directed by me & my bro Picaso (LAC). We came with the vision beginning to end. It was filmed and edited by LA’s own Calmatic. – Arms & Hammers – Feb 22, 2011 -Kron
